Anneliese Michel...(1952-1976)

I happen to be a very strong believer in spirits, ghosts, heaven, hell, demons and strongly believe in the fact that they influence life in a lotta ways. although im supposed to be a man of science and supposed to always look at the scientific aproach towards anything....i still strongly believe in the above mentioned "things".

There are firm reasons for my belief which i don really wish to share. some of u ppl might know what im talkin about but i have enough of personal reasons to believe in the existence in the paranormal world. a loved one will never leave u forever even after his or her death and u can be absolutely sure he or her is always there. i also feel disturbed spirits can never rest until whatever they wanted is totally accomplished.

I went for this movie today...The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Most of u guys would have probably seen "The Exorcist" or probably "Exorcist-The Beginning". Although this movie was mostly the same thing. i.e:the devil possessing a girl and a preis tries to drive it away and stuff......There was one particular line that flashed before and after the movie that made me quite curious.

"BASED ON A TRUE STORY"

Walkin outta the theatre...i was actually wonderin how the whole thing could actually happen to a young girl in real life. Thats when i decided to study a bit on the facts. Thats when i discovered, Anneliese Michel. The young girl from Bavaria, Germany.

She was a normal girl who led a normal life until one day when she was 16. She felt there were forces acting on her...that didn't let her call for help and paralysed her. She was considered Epileptic and was admitted to a hospital. The "attacks" didn't stop. She began seeing Demonic Faces in her daily prayers and was slowly being taken over. since none of the medical attention she was getting seemed to help, her parents decided to perform an exorcism on her. By this time, anneliese started eating spiders and coal since the demons didn't let her eat normal food. after all this, the church finally agreed to conduct the exorcism on her. During these exorcisms, she revealed that it wasn't one, but six demons were inside her. Lucifer, Nero, Cain, Judas, Legion and Belial. All the exorcisms were audio taped and they also recorded the demons arguing with eah other as to who would stay in her body and who wouldn't.Anneliese talked about wanting to die in order to save the souls of others. She stopped eating, rejected all medical help, and relied solely upon the priests to deliver her from the demons she believed were attacking her. Her knees ruptured after about 600 exorcisms due to the genuflections she had to do(kneeling down on the floor in prayer). She suffered from malnutrition and didn't even have strength to walk but during the exorcisms, she would sometimes need to be tied up in chains as there were sudden bursts of violence leading to her destroying pictures of christ and crucifixes in the house. She eventually died out of starvation during one of the exorcisms.

All this makes one helluva fiction story. but it ain't one. Believe it or not...it happened. It happened way before any of us were even born which is why nobody even knows about it. Whether or not she was possessed by demons is open to debate, but nothing can diminish the tragedy of her passing. Her grave became, and remains, a place of pilgrimage and religious importance to those who believe that the brave girl lost her life fighting the forces of darkness.

While The Exorcism of Emily Rose bears the legend "based on a true story," respect must be given to the actual people and events on which the story is taken. Audiences should not forget, while they are being entertained, that no matter what their beliefs, Anneliese Michel, the real "Emily Rose," was no fictional character.

A request. please click on the Anneliese Michel link and read the whole story.

  • er ok..
well, apart from the fact that the phrase 'based on a true story' gives alot of thrill...there have been many such true happenings all over the world when it comes to the supernatural world.
There are scientific eveidences to those too.. but there is always a grp which is skeptical about the whole scenario.
I myself am a confused being who doesn't know whether to believe in the supernatural world.

As what Vikram says, I am going to wait for the responses. Maybe someone might have their side of tru story to tell.

  • hi..

    thanks for dropping by..

Well, i completely agree with whatever you have written and its true that all these things exists..
my grandma often claims of seeing ppl closer to her behave like that and in India there are so many places esp religious where they tie the person in chains n all coz they can be violent.. one such place i went was in Rajasthan..it was scary to see all that n i swore never to go there again..coz there are also certain myths about ..whososvere going there, standing a chance of being a victim as well...i dont know..but certainly some truth must be there ..

but well, what makes me believe in all this comes out from the fact that during my one week trip to a village regarding the child marriages held so far.. i stayed at one place and there was this girl i came across ,who as appeared to me was absolutely fine for first few days while i was there..she talked to me very nicely n all....although she looked very weak n could hardly even slap anyone..
but on d third day i guess, i cudnt see her ..n when i asked, everyone told me to kinda stay away..but when i asked some of the ladies again ..they took me to the room where she was chained n when her uncle went near..she held him by neck with one hand..it was SCARY!! where has all the strength come from? and i bet her expressions would make you not sleep for days..

I was left speechless for the rest of the days..later i came to know that she was taken to some temple ..god knows what might have happened to her but then i wonder at times.. she was such a sweet girl..so well, if you believe everything seems to exist i guess...though i can never forget what i saw..god!!

  • oh my! That completely spooked me out!!! You know something? I always avoid talking about spirits.. cause I have always believed that talking and thinking about them is inviting them.. !!

  • Well, I'm a catholic and I believe in God. In 1976 I was a 5 years old boy when I lived in Erlenbach in Germany, 3 kilometres to Klingenberg where Anneliese Michel died.
My mom said that a woman for some reason cursed Anneliese when she wasn't born yet. The parents (Anna and Josef Michel) believed in that cursed, so that they acted on that curse.
What scares me about the whole story? The parents of Anneliese do scare me. In my opinion this story would never happened if they had really believed that Jesus died to save us from all evil.
I'm expecting to see the german movie "Requiem" at the cinema which will be more related to the facts than the movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" which was a bit strange.
You can read more facts about Anneliese Michel at Wikipedia:

  • The farther we progress in technology, the farther we get away from the truth. If the world has so many believers in a surpeme being(GOD)will say because in any relegion we all pray to a god.Why is is so hard for people to beleive in the Devil, demons, sprits, the afterlife, heven, and hell. The devil is here working on the disbelivers.
Pray for the world. H- N.Y

  • Demonic possessin, or mental illness???? You decide for yourself, there are really good arguments to both side of the story, but dont discredit one side for better knowledge of the other i say, do you homework, learn as much as you can about everything that you know nothing, then further situations like this can be prevented and will never eventuate again.

  • it is kind of spooky . i agree with you

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Fri Apr 14, 12:45:00 AM

  • Jesus cast out demons according to the appostles and the deciples who wrote two of the Gospels. This I presume is the basis for the Catholic procedures for exorcism. But you say, how do we know that Jesus was real and even if we agree that he was (evidence is overwhelming that he existed); how do we know he arose from the dead and was the son of God.

I think the best proof is in the apostles. These men, frightened to even be around him on the night of his arrest. The chief among them denying even knowing Jesus. Yet shortly after they say he arose and appeared to them which was only three days after his horrible death they are in the Temple preaching about Jesus as the Son of God. The danger is still all around them in fact, the leaders attempt to arrest them, yet these men who ran from the shadows now fear not and announce Jesus' resurection! Tell me you need more proof!

  • There is a difference between you actually belive and WANT to belive.
I certainly don't want to belive that it all ends at death, but it is possible that there is nothing beoyond.None of us really know for sure and that's why I consider myself and the world AGNOSTIC.Because come on can you really PROVE you belifs to even yourself? No you really can't so just leav eit at I DONT KNOW

  • I am certainly a skeptic myself, and after reading MANY versions of this story....I can promise you this was no mental illness. Most sites will tell you for years she took her medication and was put in a mental home to no hope. So take it how you want. I am not saying she was possessed but surely, God was there in the end to take away her suffering, no matter if the people who caused it where spirits or herself. (I do believe the church had NOTHING to do with her OWN FREE will to deny food or any other medical help).

    *Shrug*

    My 2 cents.

  • You really need to be more skeptical. Here's some info on just how "normal" Anneliese Michel was before the exorcism:

Anneliese was diagnosed by doctors as suffering from grand mal epilepsy, a condition of the brain that causes severe seizures. This, compounded by other possible mental and psychological disorders, resulted in hallucinations of demonic faces and voices. Her religious parents, apparently baffled and frustrated by their 16-year-old daughter’s increasingly psychotic and often violent behavior, chose to thwart the medical diagnosis and sought an exorcism.

For years, the Church refused to grant an exorcism. They accepted the medical diagnosis, finding no supernatural criteria to warrant an exorcism. There were certainly very serious and highly disturbing symptoms: Anneliese would mutilate herself, eat flies and coal, drink her own urine and physically lash out at her family. A profoundly disturbed girl. But there was no levitation, no documented telekinesis (heck, even poltergeist cases have some telekinesis) – whatsoever that could be deemed supernatural.

  • Several interesting comments here. Some good arguements and some uneducated comments. The fact is a belief in God, Devil, Angels and Demons is based on faith.

If you have that faith you can consider the possibility that her story was truly possesion but still only God would truly know the answer to that question because there is still the chance it could be mental illness.

Now if you do not have faith you can only consider one option, it must be mental illness because you do not see any other alternative but there is a possible scientific explanation so you run with that idea and fail to give into the possibility of anything else. An arguement can still be made against you because science is never fact; it is research that leads you to a theory or an assumtion.

In the end on both accounts you are still left wondering.. what if? So what if it was mental illness and your scientific study and theory is correct; you must dig a little deeper and wonder about all who suffer from mental illness. Now, what if there is a God? What if her purpose in life was to raise awareness of the spiritual world? You can't deny that she succeeded in that part even if it was mental illness verses possesion.

Now, I agree that if she truly believed in God and God's word that demons could not have entered her body. (As one blogger mentioned.) That is contrary to God's Logos. If there is a God then His logos would not be incorrect. If there were not a God then that would be mute statement. However my personal view is that God does exist and so do the angels and demons and devil as the Bible clearly states.

The blogger who questioned if Jesus existed is ignorant. No one questions if he existed, even those who don't believe in God. Atheists vs. Christians debate whether or not Jesus was God?

A few thousand years ago it was written that the devils biggest weapon is convincing you he does not exist. This is why demonic possesion is more to likely affect those who deny his existance. Only God knows the internal battle in the mind of mankind. God promises that no weapon formed against you will prosper when you call on His name. If you call on God's name then if there is a demonic force it can not attack you.

My point in all of this is that the real question is not was she possessed because you first have to answer another question to come to that conclusion which is, do you believe in God?
